Known for their beautiful white plumage, the snowy owls have moved into their new home signaling the completion of the
Zoo’s award-winning Glacier Run exhibit. Native to the Arctic region, the snowy owl is a stunning and mysterious looking animal. That could explain why it was chosen as a iconic character in the Harry Potter novels. Its signature plumage, which
ranges from pure white for males to white with some darker specks for females, serves as very effective camouflage in their frigid habitat.

The new exhibit was designed to resemble a rustic outbuilding sitting on the outskirts of an Arctic town– in this case, Glacier Run. The inside is equally themed having an industrial feel with trusses running down the center which serve as
perches for the birds. The Zoo’s snowy owl exhibit will showcase both a male that came from the Netherlands and a female
from the Minnesota Zoo. Because snowy owl populations are on the decline, the Zoo’s exhibit was designed deliberately to support a breeding program and help contribute to North America’s snowy owl population. According to Gary Michael,
curator of birds at the Zoo, Europe has had more luck breeding these beautiful birds; researchers believe this is due to the region’s cooler climate and better air quality. The interior temperature of our exhibit will reside at a cool 55 degrees with a climate-controlled system and a high quality air filtration system that will help keep the air purified. The hope
is that these special accommodations will encourage breeding.

Founded in 1998. the Lululemon name was chosen in a survey of 100 people from a list of 20 brand names and 20 logos. The logo is actually a stylized “A” that was made for the first letter in the name “athletically hip”, a name which failed to make the grade.

Founded by Chip Wilson in Vancouver, Canada in 1998, lululemon is a yoga-inspired, technical athletic apparel company for women and men. What started as a design studio by day and yoga studio by night soon became a standalone store in November of 2000 on West 4th Avenue in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood.

Lululemnon’s vision was to create more than a place where people could get gear to sweat in, they wanted to create a community hub where people could learn and discuss the physical aspects of healthy living, mindfulness and living a life of possibility. It was also important for them to create real relationships with guests and understand what they were passionate about, how they liked to sweat and help them celebrate their goals. Today, lululemnon does this in stores around the globe.

Calhoun Construction Services performed all metal framing, drywall, doors, frames, blocking, acoustic ceiling and barrel ceilings for the Oxmoor Mall location.

Shortly after Prohibition ended in the United States, Heaven Hill Brands, was founded in Bardstown, Kentucky by the Shapira family to produce and market Bourbon and premium American whiskeys. At the time, it was as speculative a new business venture as the dot com start-ups of the 1990’s — a company founded with no brands, no available stocks of whiskey, and at the height of the Great Depression. Today, the company is the largest independent, family-owned and operated producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the country. According to industry analysts, Heaven Hill is now the seventh largest spirits supplier in the United States and second largest holder of aging Bourbon whiskey in the world with an inventory in excess of 1,000,000 barrels.

In a city known for both its bourbon and its basketball, it’s only appropriate that the home of the University of Louisville basketball team would be stocked with the Kentucky spirit…Although the KFC Yum! Center serves a variety of beer and cocktails at its concession stands, the most advertised alcoholic beverages are those made in Kentucky and Calhoun Construction Services was proud to build the Heaven Hill Bar on the main course.

Calhoun Construction Services served as the General Contractor for the Heaven Hill Bar on the main course in the KFC Yum! Center. A Populous design, the bar incorporated a Heaven Hill branding experience for its patrons.

In the early 1920s, the Rev. August “Dad” Hoeger worked as a parish pastor in North Dakota. When a fellow minister’s plea for donations to help a young boy with polio exceeded its goal by $2,000, the Rev. Hoeger suggested the extra money be used to help other individuals with disabilities. To that end, The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society was incorporated under the laws of the state of North Dakota on September 29, 1922, as a religious, charitable, not-for-profit corporation.

The first Good Samaritan Society center opened in a rented six-room house in Arthur, N.D., in March 1923. Though it began primarily as a center for people with physical and mental disabilities, the Society soon expanded the scope of services it offered. Shortly after the home opened, an elderly man on crutches came to Dad Hoeger and asked to be admitted. It was later discovered that he did not need crutches, but had pretended to need them so he could secure a place to stay. This incident demonstrated to the Rev. Hoeger and others a need for services for the elderly, as well as for those with disabilities.

With more than 240 locations across the country, The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society is the largest not-for-profit provider of senior care and services in the United States.

Calhoun Construction Services served as the General Contractor. An 11,700 sq ft addition was constructed as a post acute care wing for the long term nursing facility and we renovated 3,500 sq ft of an existing wing creating more patient rooms. Calhoun Construction self-performed much of the working including framing, drywall and painting.
