Kentucky State University ( KSU ) is a public co-educational university in Frankfort, Kentucky. Founded in 1886 as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, KSU was the second state-supported institution of higher learning in Kentucky. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,025 and a total graduate enrollment of 134.
Calhoun Construction Services served as the General Contractor for the Boiler repairs and distribution line upgrades. This scope of work included creating two new boiler rooms within existing occupied buildings on campus. This required demolition of existing finishes, drywall and cmu, and ceilings which Calhoun self-performed. Installation of doors and frames to form the new spaces were also self-performed by Calhoun. Extensive sound isolation was required since the new boiler rooms are within an operating library and gymnasium space. Calhoun installed rubber isolated drywall and ceilings to reduce the operating noise within the space.
In addition to the new boiler rooms, Calhoun was responsible for creating access to the distribution line tunnels throughout the campus. Within the tunnels, Calhoun executed a number of concrete repairs including repairing spawl, expansion joint replacement, embedded channel repair and replacement, and rust conversion.
