It all started with an inaugural race meet in 1875 that featured two flagship horse races: the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby. These iconic races are still run beneath the Twin Spires years later, making the Derby the longest continually-held annual sporting event in the United States. Today, Derby Week is preceded by a month of events celebrating the Kentucky Derby and helps to bring over $350 million to the local economy each year.
Diversification beyond live horse racing into historical horse racing, online wagering and gaming has fueled the company’s growth and supported CDI’s expansion. In 2007, they created the industry-leading technology platform TwinSpires, that is now one of the most profitable online wagering platforms for horse racing in the U.S.
Calhoun Construction served as the Construction Manager on the renovation of the ultra exclusive Mansion. The 2022 refresh included painting of the main barrel ceiling and 6 soffits of feature lighting in main Mansion bar area. New Ceiling paint and Wall coverings in the lobby, elevator, and teller areas and an addition of 14 Wireless Access Points installed above ceiling.
