John Hinshaw has been a project manager/operations manager in the construction industry for over 20 years, traveling the country managing numerous construction projects from hundred-million dollar sports venues to luxury apartment complexes. John has an uncanny ability to formulate a team and maximize their strengths, which in turn allows him to give our owners the best possible teams for their projects. He currently serves as Calhoun’s President with a workforce of over 125 employees spread over more than 15 projects and totaling more than $100 million dollars of work in progress.

Mike has more than a billion dollars in project experience in industries including healthcare, manufacturing, sports, hospitality and industrial facilities. Mike is well-versed in the management of self-perform work, the pre-construction process with architects and owners representatives, and the renovation and expansion of existing operating facilities. Mike’s aptitude in financial management makes him an invaluable member of the Calhoun team and a major asset to clients.

Shannon has decades of experience in sales, business development, and marketing. She worked with Poe Companies developing hotels, condos, and retail spaces in the late 2000’s and has been in the commercial construction industry since 2015. She loves meeting new people, connecting people with resources, and fostering long-lasting relationships. She enjoys the thrill of finding new opportunities, and she is always willing to go above and beyond to get the job done.

After earning her BS in Accounting from Sullivan University in 2001, Jessica started her career in the real estate industry in 2003.  Over the years, she has attained a mastery of the details and nuances of finance in the construction industry and joined Calhoun in 2014 as Controller.

In this role, she manages all budgeting, cost control, and reporting for financials.  She also excels at leading her team, which includes HR, Accounting, IT, and the onsite shop at Calhoun’s headquarters.

Kurt has more than 25 years of commercial and industrial contracting experience with over a billion dollars in bidding and management experience. Kurt has bid and managed a diverse resume of projects from restaurants and retail spaces to office buildings and power plants. He is able to create comprehensive estimates for our owners that offer real numbers, but is also quick to identify certain elements that can provide significant savings without sacrificing the design.

As VP of Estimating, Kurt manages the strategy and operations of his department as they relate to the overall goals of the company.

Jeff has managed the construction and on-site staff for more than $650 million in new construction and complex historical renovations across the country both as a construction manager and as a dedicated owner representative. He has extensive pre-construction and on-site management experience, and specializes in using technology and creative solutions to ensure projects run smoothly and efficiently while mitigating his customer’s risk. In 2013, a project Jeff led was recognized as a “Project of the Year” by Engineering News-Record and received special recognition by ENR for the development and execution of the site-specific safety plan. Jeff has worked in industries including hospitality, research and development, sports and entertainment, aviation, government, and food and beverage.

Jeff has extensive project management experience and knowledge, having worked on a wide variety of sports and hospitality venues from large arenas to restaurants to recreational parks. Jeff spends the majority of his time at Churchill Downs, overseeing and managing large-scale renovations as well as smaller-scale repairs onsite. It’s a perfect match, since he used to sell race tip sheets on Central Avenue when he was 11 years old.  It is that deeply-rooted nostalgia & admiration that fuels his passion for the immaculate attention to detail that has solidified Churchill Downs as a world-renowned destination.

Kevin has nearly 20 years of successfully designing, managing, and delivering projects across industries and markets in excess of $500M. He is a licensed architect in both New York and Kentucky.

Kevin has provided design and project leadership for national and international projects, firms, and clients, both during his time in practice as an Architect and his time in commercial real estate development.  He previously was Vice President of Design & Construction for a hospitality brand founded and based in Louisville and focused on the development, design, and construction of new properties as well as capital improvements for existing properties.

Kevin’s multi-disciplinary background and passion for thoughtful and impactful community projects aligns with Calhoun’s mission to provide our clients with unmatched quality and commitment.  Kevin is active in the community and participates on several boards and organizations.

Larry began his construction career over 30 years ago as a laborer working his way up to a Carpenter and has spent the last couple of decades as a Superintendent on projects ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 Billion.

Seth is a talented and experienced Project Executive. He is a senior-level leader who oversees the strategic direction, planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and meeting expectations of quality, scope, budget, and schedule.

He has a strong background in fast-paced, multi-phased, and strict-schedule projects. Seth is highly knowledgeable in infection control, phasing, cost control, contract negations and building codes. Seth is a proficient problem solver and enjoys nurturing owner and designer relationships and teaching/training the next generation of construction leaders to help foster continued growth in the industry. He is a natural leader and implements plans confidently and skillfully.

Jerod is an award-winning construction professional who leads Calhoun Construction Services’ high-performance project teams.

He is a natural problem solver, team builder and critical thinker, who consistently provides innovative solutions, which creates intrinsic value to project stakeholders. His commitment to delivering high-quality results, adherence to strict timelines, and meticulous attention to detail have earned him respect and recognition within the field. Jerod drives success through his leadership, strategic vision, and dedication to achieving excellence in construction management.

Brad boasts a remarkable career spanning decades within the construction industry. His journey began in 1990, and since then, he has been steadfast in his commitment to ensuring the success and profitability of each project he undertakes. Brad firmly believes that the key to project success lies in a collaborative team effort, and he approaches every endeavor with this ethos at its core. His passion for teamwork is evident in his enthusiasm for engaging with all project team members, where he actively contributes to scheduling, creative problem-solving, strategic phasing and planning, and the overall coordination of projects.

John is highly involved in the day-to-day construction process while managing schedules, cost, procurement, and construction documents. He meets regularly with Calhoun management, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project plan is executed safely and on schedule.

With his vast experience as an electrician and in the industry with MEP, he is utilized as a knowledgeable resource across multiple projects.

Joel’s day-to-day duties include managing multiple projects to make sure that both materials and subcontractors are ready to be on site and complete their scope of work when superintendents need them.

During the course of a project Joel helps his superintendents think about and plan the work for the next few weeks/months to make sure the team is staying on top of material procurement and manpower needs. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence has earned him respect amongst his peers as well as within the industry.

A highly accomplished professional with a strong educational background, extensive experience in the field of Construction Management, and proud veteran, Dennis has honed his expertise through years of hands-on experience and continuous learning. With a track record of success in various leadership roles, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to oversee all aspects of construction projects, from inception to completion. He is committed to delivering exceptional results, mentoring team members, and making informed decisions that drive project success. Dennis was born and raised in Lexington and is an avid Cats fan.

Danny has over 15 years of experience in the construction industry working on a variety of construction projects in both estimating and project management roles. Danny is well versed in numerous contract types including traditional bid, design-build, and preconstruction all while focusing on building strong relationships with clients and trade contractors. He maintains relations with design consultants, trade partners and vendors. For new and active estimates, he develops scope of work documents, solicits trade partners, performs quantity surveys and creates budgets, tracking estimate progress against deadlines and ensures total team engagement and buy-in.
