The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research’s primary objective is to execute a research program designed to develop new and more effective and environmentally acceptable use for coal and to improve existing uses for Kentucky’s fossil fuels and other natural resources.

With the carbon fiber project, Calhoun is constructing a new one-story assembly building.  The scope of work includes excavation, earthwork, site drainage, new concrete floors, structural steel framing, thermal insulation, metal wall/roof panels, new HVAC systems, new ductwork, new electrical systems, installation of new interior and exterior lighting, new dust collection system, overhead coiling door installation, installation of steel and concrete bollards, installation of fume hoods and restoration of all landscaping.
