Ten years ago, the U.S. was nearing the peak of an economic recession. The country lost more than 2.6 million jobs in 2008 alone, and unemployment was edging above double-digits in many areas.

The construction industry was among the hardest hit by the Great Recession — a number of local building projects were put on hold or scrapped altogether during that time.

But oh what a difference a decade can make.

Today, we reveal 50 of the fastest-growing companies in the Louisville area, and homebuilders, general contractors and other construction-related companies are leading the pack when it comes to revenue gains.

At least one in five companies on our 2018 Fast 50 list has ties to the construction industry.

Local software, tech and creative companies are also enjoying significant growth, according to our data.

We’ve assembled this slideshow of the 50 fastest-growing companies in Louisville (listed alphabetically) to provide a snapshot of our burgeoning business community.

We’ll reveal where each of these companies rank at our annual Fast 50 luncheon Oct. 25, at the newly reopened Kentucky International Convention Center. (You can find event and registration information here.)

We also will announce winners in five revenue categories and provide details about each Fast 50 company in a special section in the Oct. 26 edition of Louisville Business First.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees.

About Fast 50

For the 19th year, Louisville Business First has calculated revenue data for dozens of privately held companies in the area to determine which ones are setting the pace.

Fast 50 companies on our list must be independent, for-profit and privately held. They must release a three-year operating sales history and have an average of at least $1 million in revenue for the three most recent fiscal years.

They also must be headquartered in Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer or Trimble counties in Kentucky or Clark, Floyd, Harrison or Washington counties in Indiana.

Our data and research editor analyzes revenue information submitted by entrants and singles out the ones with the greatest average percentage of revenue growth. The top 50 make our list.
